Indonesia has been constantly sending millions of migrant workers to countries in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Australia over the years. Bank Indonesia noted that the number of Indonesian Migrant Workers (IMWs) in 2022 reached 3.44 million people. Based on the country of placement, most IMWs are in Malaysia, totaling 1.67 million. About 837,000 are in Saudi Arabia, 339,000 are in Hong Kong, 337,000 are in Taiwan, and thousands are in Singapore and several countries in West Asia, East Asia, and Europe (Bank Indonesia, 2023). This makes Indonesia the second-largest migrant-sending country in SoutheastAsia after the Philippines.
