The Board of Convenors had a long and lively discussion over how this important milestone in APRN's history be meaningfully observed. The BOC agreed that the anniversary activities should further increase the network's profile to the public - especially in terms of how it has addressed people's issues and concerns and promoted development alternatives. But beyond this, these activities have been thought of in order for us in the network, our constituencies included, to reflect on what APRN has achieved and what more needs to be done in the coming years.

We are happy to share with you some of the plans and activities lined up in line with our anniversary celebrations:

  1. Ten Year Report that chronicles the network's growth through the years. This will be produced both in hard copy and video format, and will be launched during the APRN Annual Conference.

In line with this, the Secretariat is calling on all members who may have photos and videos of past APRN activities. We encourage you to send these to the Secretariat at secretariat@aprnet.org.

  1. Issue videos on food sovereignty, trade, women, security/war, finance, labor and climate change that will show APRN's position and work on these issues.

  1. 10th Anniversary Symposium series on specific issues and streams. A number of national symposia have been identified with the following lead organizations:

Pakistan: Militarization (Roots for Equity)

Jakarta: Agro-fuels and the Global Supply Chain (Institute for Global Justice)

Malaysia: Trade/Bilaterals (PAN AP/TWN)

Other countries who would like to organize a national symposium may send in their concept/proposal for the BOC to approve. Each approved symposium will receive a modest allocation in support of speakers' travel and other related expenses.

  1. A short video report and photo exhibit during the APRN Annual Conference.

  1. There will also be a number of commemorative products that will be produced.

  1. APRN Annual Conference

The theme for this year's conference is "Resist Privatization, Reclaim Public Services." This will be held from 25-28 November in Bangalore, India.

Please await the next update on the conference preparations.

We look forward to hearing your feedback, as we all try to get our collaborative work going. Thank you very much.

For the Secretariat,

Maria Theresa Nera-Lauron
